Check mates

The sound of laughter poured from Ms. Theobald’s room as the Chess Club held its inaugural meeting, courtesy of Damien Foster and Jacob Ford.

Foster, an avid chess player and member of the chess club while at PHMS, was looking forward to playing in high school, too, but when he noticed that there wasn’t a chess club at WHS, Foster decided that simply wouldn’t do. Foster says, “I was disappointed there wasn’t a chess club at this school, so I fixed it.” He reached out to Ford and they set a plan in motion.

Mrs. Theobald heard Foster’s love for the game and became the adviser. And with that, the Chess Club was born.

Both Foster and Ford think the club is a great opportunity for people to come by and learn how to play chess. If you are interested in joining the fun, meetings will be held on Wednesdays in D209. All are welcome, as Ford says, “We think it’s a great opportunity for people to come by and learn how to play chess.”
