Fall band concert showcases WHS musical talent

Under the direction of Mr. Brad Faryniarz, WHS’ band program held its fall concert on October 21 in the high school auditorium. The concert featured each of Woodhaven’s bands: Symphonic Band, Concert Winds, and the WHS Marching Band.

WHS Symphonic Band performed three numbers: “Seeking Solace,” by Nicole Piunno, “Down a Country Lane,” by Aaron Copland, translated by Patterson, and “Soundtrack Highlights from Avengers Endgame,” by Alan Silvestri arranged by Brown.

The WHS Concert Winds’ first performance was “The Mandalorian,” by Ludwig Goransson arranged by Murtha, “March Diabolique” by Brian Balmages featuring solos by Julia Noal and Kylee Higby on the flute and Lance Sterbenz on the trumpet. Their second number was another Piunno piece, “Autumn Air,” featuring soloists Peighton Lloyd on alto saxophone, Sullivan Brisco, Joshua Ferguson, and Lance Sterbenz on the trumpet, Nathan Kriebel on the French horn, Grace Parkham and Paige Adamisin on the oboe, Andrew Piontek on the baritone, and Kylee Higby on the flute. The Concert Winds’ final performance was “music of the Beatles,” arranged by Sweeney. This arrangement featured solos by Joshua Ferguson on trumpet, Matthew Sterbenz on alto saxophone, Elena Badagh on clarinet, Noah McKenzie on trombone, Damien Foster on tuba, and Draven Whitaker on drums.

The finale of the evening was performed by the WHS Marching Band’s performance “Stadium Echoes: Highlights from the 2021-2022 Marching Band Season.”
