Woodhaven XC leads the way at the Downriver Jamboree II

The Warriors’ cross country team had a successful meet at the second Downriver League Jamboree, placing second out of the 6 teams competing. With hard work and beautiful weather conditions, the Woodhaven runners were at peak performance.

The boys were focused and prepared for their race. Overall, they ran well, with five Woodhaven runners finishing in the top 20. Pierce Scheffler led the Warriors placing 8th with a time of 17:58.6. Following close behind, Evan Smith finished in 10th place clocking in at 18:31.4, and Alex Vasquez finished with a time of 18:43.2 placing 12th. With sub-20 minute times, William Widby (17th), Mateo Reyes (20th), Jeremiah Lawson (21st), Dominic Germano (24th), Reed Trela (27th), and Jason Sax (28th) each contributed to the success of the team.

The girls’ race took place after the boys, with the boys sticking around to support them during the competition. Payton Scheffler had an impressive performance finishing in 2nd place with a time of 19:48.6. Next for the Warriors, Elliana Perugi placed 10th making a time of 21:59.8, and Raelyn McLaughlin directly behind in 12th place with a time of 22:02.2. Each finishing with sub-24 minute times, Joslyn Bechtol (15th), Isabelle Kriebel (16th), Adalya Ghnaim (17th), and Maya Justice (18th) all put up a good fight.

As the season progresses, the Warriors will continue to improve and impress. The Woodhaven cross country team has proven themselves as formidable opponents within the Downriver League and have much determination to succeed moving forward. Cross country fans can catch the Warriors next at the Downriver League XC Conference Meet on Thursday, October 20 at Lake Erie Metropark.
