Warriors on track for a dynasty

Woodhaven High School’s bowling team is knocking down pins and racking up wins this season. The bowling team are two time returning regional champions looking toward success once again. The 2022-2023 season started with the first two meets rolling with wins over Edsel Ford and Allen Park. The boys showed they are tough to beat and a team to look at. They are making sure to not skip a beat by trying to reclaim the title.

The third game caused a small hiccup for the boys however, with a tough loss against a very well rounded Gibraltar Carlson. The Woodhaven Warrior team lost the match with a score 11 to 19. They bounced right back though for the fourth game with a score of 4 to 0 against the undefeated Taylor Griffin team. This match was a key game to keep them close to leading the Downriver League. Dominic Duey of the Warriors had an amazing day to help win with a 201 and a 224 game, along with help from fellow high roller, Matthew Sterbenz.

Duey and Matt Sanchez were a part of last year’s regional championship squad, and are definitely showing why with their success this year already. Sterbenz, a senior, currently is averaging 207, while Duey, a Junior, is right behind him with a 189 average. Both bowlers played in the Baker games along with the rest of the team, and ended up rolling a league-high score of 1037. The boys record currently is 8 and 3 on the season and the team is second overall in the league. As this season wraps up we will see where the Warriors will fall in the standings. Without a doubt a three-peat at regionals is in the back of the team’s head; the only question is can they do it again?
