The Lady Warriors traveled to Riverview to compete against various schools for 18 holes, resulting in another Woodhaven victory.
The six varsity golf girls competed against many rivals of Woodhaven including Carlson, Trenton, Wyandotte, and Allen Park High School at Riverview Highlands on September 19.
Senior Abi Saco, 17, beat 39 other golfers and brought home the gold. Saco has excelled throughout her high school career, and her improvement has clearly shown this year.
Saco revealed that she worked on her short game over the winter, and her irons over the summer. The summer practice allowed her to lead the team undefeated for her senior season.
The entire team’s hard work and dedication showed at this Jamboree. Saco stated, “Our team worked together well during practices, and individually had an amazing short game.”
Saco placed first, and the other 5 Woodhaven athletes finished close behind.
Junior Adilynn Rushlow placed third to contribute to the team’s first place finish. Rushlow golfed 12 under par and showed great teamwork throughout the day.
Sophomore Hayley Swain placed sixth ending with a score of 94. Junior Alyssa Ganop placed ninth with a score of 98. Freshman Katie Carlson placed thirteenth ending with a score of 102. Junior Gabriella Stanley placed fifteenth finishing with a score of 106.
As a whole, the team kept scores low. This left them in first place, winning by 31 strokes to Carlson.
The team will attend the 7th jamboree of the season October 3, competing against many similar rivals. The hard work has paid off and they continue to work at practice to lead their team to another victory.
