The Muslim Student Association is once again in business to bring awareness to minorities and now has bigger plans than ever.
With a new year starting at Woodhaven High School, the student-led organization is back, this time with new leaders including Muhammad Haris, Muhammad Ahmed, Ahmed Ali, and Jesus Alvarez.
These young leaders are ready to change the world one community at a time, making sure their voices are heard, supporting minorities, and ensuring that no one feels abandoned. Harris said the community needs to hear what everyone has to say. No one should be left out and everyone should have a safe place where they can be themselves.
“Muslims and minorities have a small voice in the community we live in today,” Haris said. “I felt like it was my job to make sure everyone in this community felt supported and knew that we have each other’s back. Everyone’s voice should be heard.”
MSA is looking forward to a few events during this school year including their meetings and special days just so these minority groups can feel more at home and comfortable enough to be themselves around anyone.
“We plan on having a culture day soon this school year,” Ali said. “MIST is also another cool event we are looking forward to along with MSA meetings which happen once a month.”
Harris enthusiastically recommends the Muslim Student Association to others, saying, “MSA is a place where everyone is welcome and a place where people can get together to just be themselves. There is no one to judge and no one who will judge, everyone can get together for a common, greater goal. If you’re not already part of a school group or sport, this is the perfect place for you to hang out in a safe environment.”
MSA welcomes all students at WHS, and they are always looking for more people to come and support the community.
“Everyone and anyone is welcome to join MSA,” Alvarez said. “No matter what religion, race, or ethnicity someone is, they are always welcome to come hang around us and show love to their community.”
With goals to bring awareness to minorities and make sure everyone can have a voice, MSA is off to a strong start this school year and looking forward to seeing what MSA can achieve shortly.
