Woodhaven DECA heads to States March 14 after months, focused and ready to win after months of preparation.
Woodhaven DECA has been working on various student-led projects during the school year. These projects are intended to give back to those in need or to present marketing skills. However, some DECA students are working on their roleplay event skills.
Tyler Lennon is a first-year student who qualified for states with his roleplay. He competed in the Sports and Entertainment event. Lennon states, “I prepare for states by researching vocabulary that fits my event I am competing in and practicing with my friends with sample role plays”
Lennon will be competing in the same category for his role play at states in which he will have the chance to qualify for the international state conference in Anaheim, California.
On January 12th, Woodhaven DECA traveled to the District 5 conference to compete in the roleplay event. These students represented Woodhaven DECA well with 35 state qualifiers and 33 medals to take back home to prepare for the state conference.
An additional 35 students are going to compete for their written events at states. These written event students have been preparing to compete by finalizing their papers and making their competition props.
The state conference will be held from March 14th through the 16th. These students are practicing their marketing and presentation skills to dominate the competition and to make their mark on the state conference.
Gary Pilgrim’s group is working on their project of promoting the new products in the Warrior Trade and what the Warrior Trade offers. They use their marketing skills to efficiently advertise the school store. They are working on their sales approach and presentation skills. Pilgrim emphasized, “Going to states is an exciting chapter of my life and I am practicing to ensure I make the most of my time.”
Alex Rusnak’s group is working with the Community Awareness Project and explaining how the high school is working as an advertising team to help promote students, staff, and community members. “Why Woodhaven?” is their motto to represent this chapter. Rusnak states, “We have been working directly with many outlets of faculty and various promotional avenues in the community to have a broader outreach to all, and show why Woodhaven is so great.”
Rusnak is preparing for states by polishing his paper and practicing presenting with his group members to ensure all of the material is locked in his head.
Logan Menge’s group for Downriver For Veterans is working on raising money and empathy for veterans in the Downriver Area. His group works on marketing and planning events for Downriver For Veterans.
Menge states, “My goals for this overall project is for my group and I to get the word out about what this powerful organization is and to showcase what we did over the year and the reasons we were here and to hopefully advance to internationals.”
Woodhaven DECA is ready to EXPERIENCE THE DIFFERENCE at the 2024 state conference.
