Regionals on Saturday, February 17th two out of the seven wrestlers went to compete at regionals, Reece Brant (144 pounds) and Koen Huepenbecker (126 pounds). Both placed fourth place to qualify them to wrestle up at Ford Field for a chance to be state champs.

States at Ford Field on March 1-2nd Huepenbecker(126 pounds) wrestled a match winning one match by pinning his opponent but losing in the quarterfinal match by decision (10-5). This placed him eighth overall in his bracket.

On day one of the States Brant(144 pounds) lost his first match by major decision against a 2x state qualifier with a score of (17-5). He ended up with a pin for his second match. With a good attitude and fighting with all he has, he lost his third match of the day in his blood round and ended up being his last match of the states

On the second day of wrestling Huepenbecker won his first match of States by decision(10-5) in round three and lost a close match by decision with a score of (3-1). In Hupenbecker’s seventh place, he had wrestled against 3x state returning qualifiers. As Hupenbecker gave it his all, he lost by decision 9-2.

These wrestlers led their young team, “It was a good season. Our team as a whole grew a lot, the kids got better, and I just felt everyone was more connected by the end of the season, the room came together and everyone started working hard at the end of the season,” said Huepenbecker. 

Both Wrestlers showcased their hard work on the mat and can be proud of their achievements this season leading to a stronger group of Warrior wrestling.
