Both high schoolers and teachers are always searching for different types of entertainment to fill their free time. Mamma Mia is a widely known movie around the world, but many people still have not put in the time to watch it. 

Mamma Mia hit theaters in July of 2008 and continues to thrive while being one of the most popular movies. It made $694.6 million worldwide on a $52 million budget and became the 5th highest-grossing film of 2008. According to Rotten Tomatoes, this movie has a controversial rating of 55% and a rating of 6.5/10 on IMDb. 

Mamma Mia is a musical and romantic comedy that follows the storyline of a bride-to-be, Sophie, who is on her quest to find out who her dad is by inviting three different men that her mom, Donna, all had previous relationships with. 

This movie takes place on a fictional Greek island called Kalokairi, where Donna is the owner of a taverna and works as a single mom to keep the island afloat while also working to support her daughter. 

After Sophie sent out letters to her three potential dads, she had no hope that any of them were going to show up. When all three of them did, not only was she shocked, but she had no idea how she was going to hide them from her mom. She ends up hiding them in the old goat house in hopes of not finding them. Her mom stumbled upon them when she was cleaning the goat house and began to spy on them.

Donna discloses with her old friends, Rosie and Tanya, that she truly has no idea who Sophie’s father is and her friends take that as a challenge to figure out who it could be. As the movie progresses, Donna gets more and more worried about the three men being there. Sophie begins to try to dig deeper and get to know each of them more on a personal level in the hopes of gaining a sense of who her father could be. 

As the movie goes on, the audience learns more and more about each of the characters and gets an understanding of who they think Sophie’s father is.

After watching this movie myself I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun movie to watch. Something that elevates the movie even more is the music that is sung throughout it. The music is very catchy and easy to sing along with which makes the movie much more enjoyable to watch a second time through. 

 Even though Mamma Mia came out over a decade ago, there are still more movies being produced. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again came out in late 2018, and a third Mamma Mia movie is in the making, but the release date has yet to be revealed. These movies are perfect for people who are looking for a feel-good movie and for people who also enjoy watching musicals. People can watch this movie on Netflix with a subscription, or they can rent it on other sites such as YouTube or Prime Video.
