Best coffee spots downriver as a barista

Best coffee spots downriver as a barista

In today’s day and age, many people don’t leave their houses or go to work without a cup of coffee before leaving. There are many different coffee chains throughout the downriver area, but there are also some local coffee shops that many people did not even know existed. No matter where people go daily, they are guaranteed to pass a coffee shop. In this article, there are 5 different coffee shops with a small description of each place to inspire coffee lovers to try new places and encourage non-coffee drinkers to try something new.

Dunkin (Dunkin’ locations)

27050 Telegraph Rd, Flat Rock, MI 48134

This coffee chain is located not far from any location. From anywhere you are, there will most likely be a Dunkin within 10 minutes of where you are. Dunkin has many perks, but the main perk that it has while going here is the price of its iced coffee; you can’t beat it. Regular iced coffee with add-ons of cream and caramel starts at a low price of 3 dollars. Iced coffee can be expensive at times, but this is a reasonable and affordable price. Another perk of going here is their good points and rewards system. The points system is that you get 10 points per dollar you spend there, and after getting 500 points, you can get a free coffee of any size. Dunkin also has a wide variety of food, such as breakfast sandwiches and various donuts. Although the food at Dunkin is not my favorite, it is also not the worst food in the world.

My go-to order: iced coffee with 3 creams 2 caramels and 1 butter pecan with a sausage, egg, and cheese wake-up wrap.

Biggby (Flickr)

21649 Telegraph Rd, Brownstown Charter Township, MI 48183

This is another coffee chain that is located nearby. One special feature that Biggby provides is that you can get any latte on their menu either hot, iced, or frozen, so nobody has to change what drink they want to get; they can just rotate it by getting it hot one week and iced the next week. That is a very accommodating feature. Unlike other coffee shops around, Biggby usually has new flavors or food items each month. This month, their new flavor is White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, and their newest food item is their Cherry Cheese Danish. Their menu is always changing. One last unique feature that Biggby has are sandwich bragels that you can customize and put whichever kind of protein and cheese on them that you would like.

My go-to order: iced island bear latte with oat milk and a turkey havarti on an asiago bagel with garden veggie cream cheese.

Starbucks (Pexels)

22850 Allen Rd, Woodhaven, MI 48183

This is the last coffee chain that is included in this article. Starbucks is a chain that almost everyone is familiar with and has been to. Starbucks has a wide variety of different drinks, from a simple iced coffee to a latte, and they even have several different kinds of teas and fruity drinks to choose from. Something very interesting about Starbucks is that they have over 87,000 different drink combinations that can be made or asked for. That means that there is something for everyone to choose from. Starbucks doesn’t just sell drinks; they also have many different food items. Their food items include many different breakfast sandwiches, bakery items such as cake pops and muffins, as well as some healthier items like yogurt and oatmeal. Starbucks has something for everyone here, whether that means food or a drink.

My go-to order: iced caramel latte and a birthday cake pop.

Blue Heron Trading Company

26217 E Huron River Dr, Flat Rock, MI 48134

This next coffee shop is a local coffee place located in downtown Flat Rock. Right when you walk into this place, it almost feels like home, and you are greeted with a warm welcome. This place has a wide variety of coffee options while also having non-coffee options. They also have more than just drinks. More than half of this coffee shop is made up of a store, with locally made items such as oils and balsamic bottles of vinegar being their most popular. They have over 30 different oils and vinegars. Not only do they have shopping and coffee, two of the best combinations in my opinion, but they also have a cute little lounge area where you and your friends can enjoy your beverages while having a fun little hang-out session. This spot is the perfect place for an afternoon getaway with the girls or even the boys.

My go-to order: a frozen caramel latte.

Bearclaw Coffee Co

24146 Sibley Rd, Brownstown Charter Township, MI 49174

The last but certainly not least coffee shop in this article is Bearclaw Coffee Co. This is becoming a worldwide franchise, but on this very day, there are only 3 locations that are all located in Michigan. The three locations are Brownstown, Dexter, and Ann Arbor, but I am sure there are more to come. Something unique about this place, in particular, is that it is a drive-thru-only coffee shop, and it is about the size of a shed that would be in someone’s backyard, so it is very small when it comes to coffee places, and many people may not even notice it when driving past it. At first, the menu can be very overwhelming, and a person might have no idea what to get, but the staff here is very friendly and accommodating. The workers are willing to help you find what drink suits you and help you find what you are going to enjoy the most. They have many specialty lattes to choose from while also being able to customize your drink with the wide array of flavors they have.

My go-to order: iced coffee with English toffee and caramel with cream and sugar.
