WHS welcomed staff members’ children for National “Take Your Child to Work Day.”
A lot of planning and tedious work goes into making TYCTWD a success. Student Council supervisor Ms. Ganop organized the day with her fellow Student council members. “Take Your Child to Work Day is organized by the student council to provide children the opportunity to visit as many classes as possible and have activities throughout the day to help the parents continue with their jobs without any interruptions,” said Ms. Ganop. Student Council provides the children with snack bags, a pizza lunch, and a student helper to escort kids to activities. Kids have the ability to visit other classrooms throughout the day or they can choose to stay with their parent. The day is energetic with activities that keep the children engaged. Many high schoolers keep the kids busy with their high energy. Psychology teacher, Mrs. Kucharski, has participated in TYCTWD every year providing her students with an opportunity to see psychology play out in real life. This is why she believes Take Your Child to Work Day is important: “So our own children can see what we do on a daily basis and kids can explore different careers and see if it may spark their interest. It’s cool for the high school kids to be able to work with the younger kids and see the younger kids’ thought processes. My class does psych experiments and my students are able to see psychology concepts hands-on.” High school students can interact with their teachers’ kids and be mentors to them. Junior Eviana Bodagh attributed TYCTWD as one of her favorite days of the year: “Take your child to work day is one of my favorite days of the year. When my mom was a substitute teacher it was so fun for us to go to school with her and hang out.” As a student council member, Eviana is able to contribute to the fun that WHS puts on for the kids. Her goal is to ensure that these children get the same experience that she did as a kid: one full of activities, fun, and new experiences. Nevertheless, the day is meant to be a fun and engaging day for staff and their children. WHS really goes the extra mile for TYCTWD to make sure the day is a success. |
