The girls’ varsity softball team continues to fight until the end of the season with a record of 13-2. Although their first two games against Lake Orion (5-8) and Algonac (1-4) did not have the outcome they were looking for, they have bounced back and have won every game since. This has given the team a type of renewed confidence and ambition in hopes of making it to states for the second time in a row.
Senior Grace Walker says, “I feel like the season is going very well. The rest of the season is also looking bright. Although we started rough, we have bounced back and have made a comeback and have shown people to not underestimate us.”
The Lady Warriors have two huge rivals when it comes to softball, which are Trenton and Allen Park.
One of their biggest accomplishments so far this season was beating Trenton. They mercied them with a score of 10-0. This was a huge turning point for the team which gave them eagerness to keep going. They face their other rival this week, Allen Park, where they hope to come out with a win as well.
Some of the other challenging matches that they have had this season were Carleton Airport in which they played a doubleheader against them and came out on top with two wins (5-4, 2-1). They have also played Gibraltar Carlson, Petoskey, and White Lake Lakeland where they also put up a tough fight while still coming out on top.
Senior Brooke Taylor says, “Our season is going well so far. We’ve come out with some big wins and have got out of some tough situations. I believe the rest of the season will be well fought and I think we have a good shot at states again this year.”
As the end of their season approaches, the Warriors have some tough games coming up. Some of these games include Trenton and Allen Park, some of the highest-ranked teams in the state. Even though these teams are some of their biggest rivals, the Warriors do not back down and keep a positive mindset in hopes for them to get to regionals and maybe even to states again.
Senior Grace Usher says, “The team that I most look forward to playing would be Allen Park. Playing against them is always the highlight of league play because with both of us being competitive teams with girls that live for the game, they are always fun and exciting games to play.”
These warriors will go into the final matches of their season with motivation and determination as they play some of their biggest rivals yet, while also enjoying this sport as a team and making memories that will last a lifetime.
