Downriver 2024 summer festivals offer warm weather fun

Festivals are a good way for people who love trying new food, enjoy music, and have fun. Many different types of festivals are going on this summer for all types of people to enjoy. There are several upcoming festivals that high school students can attend this summer, and make memories with their friends.

Starting this May is the Grosse Ile Island Fest, the dates it will be going on are May 31st- June 2nd. Friday, May 31st its grand opening will be at 4 pm and tickets cost $25, Saturday, June 1st it will open at 1 pm and cost $30, and the final day Sunday, June 2nd it will open at noon and cost $25. The sponsor of this festival is Chaos Soccer. If you are a pancake lover they have a Giyra football and cheer pancake breakfast fundraiser on Sunday from 9 am-12 pm. Parking for this festival will be available at Grosse Ile Township Hall. 

At the beginning of June, Downtown Wyandotte will kick off the 2024 Swiggin’ Pig Festival. It is a four-day long event starting June 6th until June 9th. June 6th the time it will begin is 5 pm and end at 11 pm, June 7th and 8th it will start at noon and end at 11 pm. This is a great opportunity to take your siblings or cousins because they have interactive games, 20+ carnival rides, and face painting. Parking will be available downtown for all people. 

At the end of June, the Trenton Summer Festival will be going on starting from June 28th and ending June 30th. The festival hours will be 10 am to 12 am on the 28th and 29th and on the 30th it will begin at 10 am and end at 6 pm. The sponsors are the Michigan Army National Guard, Leaf Filter Gutter Protection, Little Brothers Construction, and Resurrection Brick. They have a bunch of events going on for all kinds of people to enjoy, if you’re a music lover they will have a bunch of musicians there for you to enjoy. If you like vintage items this is perfect for you because on the 30th there will be a vintage market from 2 pm to 10 pm. 

Mid-July, Woodhaven Uncle Sam Jam is always a hit for a lot of people downriver. The dates for this event will be July 11th – 14th. The hours on Thursday will be from 4 pm to 11 pm, Friday from 4 pm to 12 am, Saturday from 12 pm to 12 am, and Sunday the final day will be 12 pm to 11 am. Parking will be available right by the event but you will have to pay $10. They have attractions for all ages, monster truck rides, a petting zoo, cornhole tournaments, drone shows, and classic car shows. On Friday night they will have their annual fireworks show at dusk which is a great time to hang out with friends or even a date. This festival can be on the more expensive side, for an all-day pass it will be $38.

Beginning in August, the Allen Park street fair will be happening. It is a two-day event, August 2nd and August 3rd. The hours for both days are 10 am to 9 pm. This event has well over 200 arts and crafts vendors. Parking is available and it is free to all. If you are interested in music and food they have live bands and more than 18 food vendors. This street fair attracts thousands of people so getting there early is recommended.

The end of September brings the Romulus Pumpkin Festival, September 20th – 22nd. They host the parade of lights, classic car shows, vendor shows, and live music to listen and enjoy. They have contests that you can enter, that being taste testing and digital photos that the people will be able to judge. Parking will be on sight at 11147 Hunt Street. If you have talent and you want to show it, Romulus Got Talent and you can send your audition in and there are prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
