The Girls Varsity Tennis team has dominated the Downriver League going 6-0 with the only team they haven’t played being Carlson. The League Championship is coming up on Monday, May 20th. The girls have been playing with full force all season and are ready to conquer the Downriver League championship for a second straight year.
All 4 singles have been dominant this year. #1 Singles Emily Overton has been the best player on the team for the last three years. This season she is 6-0 in league play where she has some very good wins against Trenton and Wyandotte. She is the favorite to take first place in her flight at Leagues as she will be the number 1 seed.
The #2 singles this season is Heidi Klindt. This year is her first year playing 2 singles and she has transitioned nicely from playing 3 singles last season. She has been very dominant in the Downriver League with a record of 6-0. Her best matches this season have been against Southgate where she won (7-6, 6-2) and when she played Trenton where she won (3-6, 6-4, 10-3).
The #3 singles player this year is Lindsey Arntson. Same with Heidi, she has transitioned up a flight from last year, moving up to 3 singles from 4 singles. She has been a very good player this year with a League record of 5-1. Some of the best matches that she has played this year have been against Allen Park and Trenton where she beat Allen Park (6-4, 6-1), and Trenton (6-0, 6-4).
The last singles player left is Alyssa Ganop who is the #4 singles on the varsity team. Last year she was a sub and played everywhere, wherever she was needed. This year she got her first opportunity at a full year on the varsity level and she did not disappoint. Her league record this year is 4-2 with some big wins against Wyandotte(6-1,6-0) and Allen Park(6-3,6-4).
The 4 doubles teams have been a force to reckon with this year. The #1 doubles team is Emmarose Doran and Paige Berridge. This team is a mix of half of the #1 doubles and the #2 singles from last year. Paige Berridge has had to transition from singles to doubles and she has fit in perfectly. Their league record this year has been 5-1 with some very tough wins against Trenton(7-6, 6-1) and Wyandotte(6-4, 7-6).
The #2 doubles team is Elsie Philabaum and Tatyana Biroscak. This team did not start the season together but was put together after the first season game against Saline and they have played great ever since. Their league record this year is 6-0 with some of their best wins coming against Wyandotte(3-6, 6-1, 6-0) and Southgate(6-4, 6-2).
The #3 doubles team this year is Kelly Do and Morgan Kelly. Morgan and Kelly have not played with each other until this year and they have found a little bit of chemistry moving throughout the season. Their league record this season is 6-0 with them just dominating every league team they have played this year. Some of their biggest wins came against Wyandotte(6-3, 6-0) and Southgate(6-3,6-3).
Onto the last doubles team, doubles team #4 has been a mix of three players with them rotating in and out of games. The three players are Samarah Saggers, Anabel Hernandez, and Caitlin Kolodziejczyk. Their league record this season was 6-0 with some of their toughest wins coming against Wyandotte(3-6, 6-3, 6-3) and Allen Park(7-5, 7-5).
With all flights having a league record of 4-2 or better and being seeded 1, 2, or 3, the Warriors are bound to dominate Leagues and win the League Championship for a second straight year.
