WHS seniors kicked off decision day on Friday where they wore outfits that represented their future plans. Whether students plan to attend a college or university, a trade, join the military, or join the workforce, each student’s subsequent ambitions were recognized on this day.
Juniors and seniors attended the decision day assembly where they competed against each other in various games. These games included flag football, dodgeball, and partner red light green light. The juniors came out victorious in flag football while the seniors triumphed in both dodgeball and partner red light green light.
Various students were recognized throughout the assembly who each represented different career paths for the future. Miki Guo, Tyler Dodd, and Aliza Siddiqui, who are each first-generation college students, were also brought to attention for the hard work and grit that was put into their high school careers. Matthew Jones, Nikki Daubresse, and Ian Ferguson were brought to attention as they are each attending a trade. Samarah Saggers, class of 2024 valedictorian, was noticed for her valiant effort, as she was accepted into several Ivy schools and plans to attend Yale University starting in the Fall of 2024. Michael Jordan was also recognized for his acceptance into Florida A&M University where he will study Fine Arts.
Furthermore, those joining the military were also noticed and several were awarded contributions for joining their respective branches. Avery Hughes was awarded by the Army. Mackenzie Murphy, Jalyn Dorsey Chester, and Darrius Houston were all awarded by the Navy. Murphy received a $10,000 enlistment bonus and Houston received a $60,000 enlistment bonus at this assembly. David Higby, Giuseppe Palazzolo, D’Juan Hall, and Matthew Saedi also received recognition for their acts of joining the Air Force.
This assembly ended with a college signing board, cupcakes, a photo booth, and a balloon arch to take pictures in front of. Students
attending a college or university sign their name by the respective school they plan to attend which is then saved for memories.
This day allows seniors to bond with their friends over their future paths. Whether these paths are separate or together, everyone’s excitement for the future is a remarkable and memorable topic. Decision Day is remembered by many for the joy it brings to many students.
