When the Detroit Tigers faced off against the Chicago White Sox for the last game of the 2024 regular season the White Sox won but the Tigers were able to make it to the playoffs. During the game the two teams went back and forth until the White Sox put up multiple runs and separate innings.
In the first inning of the game on Sunday September 29 both teams went hitless and led to a no run first inning. However in the second inning that changed when the White Sox got on the board first with 2 runs with a pair of singles. While the Tigers only got one single and later in that inning Wenceel Perez would be picked off leading to the end of the inning. Going into the third inning of the game the White Sox would give themselves a bigger lead by scoring 3 runs on a “3-run homerun to left center field by Lenyn Sosa.” (ESPN). When the Tigers got 2 hits in the third inning they were still held scoreless going into the fourth inning.
When going into the fourth inning both teams would again go hitless leading to a quick fourth inning. When the fifth inning starts the White Sox would go hitless, while the Tigers would rally up a big inning by getting one hit and multiple walks, “Kerry Carpenter would step up to the plate for his third at-bat he would hit a grand slam bringing in 4 runs.” (ESPN). When the White Sox only got one hit in the sixth inning they would score no runs, while the Tigers would get zero hits in the sixth.
Leading to the seventh inning the White Sox would open the game wide open when they scored 4 runs of their own off of multiple hits and a pitching change for the Tigers. When the Tigers would bat they went 1,2,3 to end the inning. In the eighth the White Sox would get two hits while not scoring. However the Tigers would get one hit and with the bases loaded “Spencer Torkelson would walk scoring a run.” (ESPN). When the ninth inning started the White Sox wouldn’t get a hit, while the Tigers only got one but it led to double play to end the game with the White Sox winning 9-5 in Detroit.
To conclude the final game of the 2024 regular season of baseball the Chicago White Sox would come out with the win of the Detroit Tigers in 9 innings of baseball. While the Tigers head to Houston to continue their impressive season they will play in the playoffs. When the Tigers headed to Houston they won a two game series to advance to the ALDS to take on the Cleveland Guardians in a 5 game series to move closer to the World Series.
