Mr. Vesperman is the current principal here at Woodhaven High School. Vesperman has been at Woodhaven for 17 years (which is longer than some kids have been alive here) and has been the Principal for 2 years. Vesperman was one of the people behind the renovation and changes to Woodhaven High School this year.
When interviewing he told me a lot about the process of the renovation and changes, his feeling about them, and his plan for the future of Woodhaven High School. When asked about how he felt about the changes and renovations he said “It’s really exciting and we’re very fortunate to do so.” He would open up about how fortunate we were as a high school to get approved for something so huge.
Vesperman would also say that the main goal for renovation and changes was to update some of the older facilities and bring them up to date. Some of the renovations include a new cafeteria, more classrooms added to the building but also the biggest addition to Woodhaven High School would be the performing arts center. He also said that he wanted to make changes that would help make the school more spacious and comfortable for a 9th-12th building. When asked whether Mr.Vesperman felt we achieved those goals, he would say he felt we did.
When asked about the biggest challenge or the hardest thing that came with the changes and renovations of Woodhaven High School, Mr.Vesperman would say “It was a huge time commitment” he would mention things like meetings with architectures and construction workers where they had to do a lot of planning. But he said that never felt that they couldn’t get it done. He said that with the help of experts and the planning, he felt that it was always gonna work out in the end. He said that the biggest factor in getting this done was the teamwork between architects and constructors as well as the staff here at Woodhaven High School. Vesperman would say that it wasn’t just one person who did it but a whole team thing when it came to completing the renovations and adding on to the building. Also, he never felt that student approval was a hard thing to earn rather they just had to get students excited about these changes and let the changes grow on them.
Vesperman has had a positive mindset when coming to these changes as well as how he feels about Woodhaven and the school. He would go on to say that right now Woodhaven feels like a great place to be right now. He says that in the future they plan to make more changes to Woodhaven and keep making it the “place to be.” When Vesperman was asked where did he see Woodhaven High School in the future he said “I want it to keep growing and becoming a better place for everyone.” He would call Woodhaven a destination district meaning everyone wants to come here, students, teachers, and parents as well. “We used to be the place where everyone went to other schools close but now we have people from other places trying to come here,” Vesperman would add.
