When I found out I was being selected tribe leader, I was ecstatic and very excited. Last school year I found out that the graduating class picks the new tribe leaders, and Gary Pilgrim, the tribe leader last year, told me that I was going to be head of the tribe.
Being head of the tribe meant that I had to pick 2-3 more people to help me out. I already knew I was going to pick Aiden Moritz, then me and Aiden discussed picking the girls. Me and Aiden came to the conclusion that picking Maya Justice and Rylie DeBacker was the best decision because of their school pride.
I was selected as the head tribe leader for the years 2024-2025 because of how outgoing and how much school pride I have. Some of my favorite memories from being a part of the student section are the awesome themes we get to participate in and being able to have control over all of the other students.
Being the head of the tribe, I have the opportunity and responsibility to pick the next years up and coming tribe leaders. Some advice I would give underclassmen and the up and coming leaders is, cherish the moments you have with your friends and always have fun no matter what could be going on in your life.
When picking next year’s tribe leaders, I am looking for people who are not scared to entertain the student section and people who are very outgoing for everyone to be role models too.
Aiden Moritz is the other tribe leader along with me and he says his favorite theme and football game is, “The pink out game, especially because we have our own teacher Mrs. Meyer that has experienced breast cancer so it shows our support to her and I think it’s a really fun and cool thing we at Woodhaven do.”
Aiden really enjoys being a part of the tribe and he’s glad that we were able to do it this year, he says, “Being a tribe leader is a really fun experience because we get to make the games fun for students and fans.”
Aiden is grateful he was granted the opportunity to be the other boy tribe leader along with me and can’t wait for the rest of the school year to be fun and exciting.
Maya Justice is the first of two girl tribe leaders a part of the student section. Maya says her favorite theme is the USA, she says this because, “ It’s a very fun theme where people can be creative with it, but also uniform with everyone else.” Maya has very favorable school pride and always goes all out when she gets the opportunity to.
Maya Justice arguably has the most school pride in the school and she loves that she gets to be a tribe leader. Maya has always wanted to be a tribe leader throughout high school especially being at the first couple games her freshman year.
Some advice Maya would give to underclassmen and future tribe leaders would be, “Cherish every moment you have in high school because it flies by. I’d also tell future tribe leaders to not worry too much about everyone’s opinion, considering you’ll never have a game where everyone in the student section is content with your doings.”
Rylie DeBacker is the other female tribe leader and Aiden agreed on picking. Me and Aiden agreed on Rylie because she is a very outgoing and thoughtful person.
Rylies opinion on being head of the student section is very thoughtful, she says, “It’s super fun and a great way to get involved within the high school. As being one of the tribe leaders, it has helped me motivate other participants to show more high school spirit.”
Rylies future advice to underclassmen and future tribe leaders is “It is hard to make everyone in high school happy, with that as long as you do your best to listen to the student body you will be successful and have a great time with your fellow students.”
Us four being the tribe leaders has drawn us closer and stronger to each other and has brought more people together overall. We hope to end the year as the best tribe leaders to all the younger students and hopefully be role models to next year’s student section.
