As the 2024 Woodhaven High School Homecoming finally draws closer, students are letting out all their excitement about the upcoming festivities. Amongst the typical homecoming traditions followed each year, the election for homecoming court followed by the race to win the titles of king and queen are a major thrill point in the eyes of the student body.
For candidate Caitlin Kolodziejczyk, being elected to homecoming court itself is a dream come true, but not necessarily due to the title being earned: Kolodziejczyk stated, “When I was younger, I know with watching movies about high school, I always admired things like this and wanted to experience them myself, so it means a lot to me to be able to be apart of this once in a lifetime experience for my senior year.”
During her time at Woodhaven High School, Kolodziejczyk has not only been actively involved in varying extracurricular activities, but also in the student body as a whole. The senior candidate plays for Woodhaven’s Varsity Tennis Team as well as she eagerly participates in clubs such as S.A.D.D (Students Against Dangerous Decisions) and Link Crew. The court member declared, “As a senior I can say I’ve experienced Woodhaven High School to its fullest. I love being involved in sports, spirit days, and other fun extracurricular activities. I feel like that’s how I represent this school.”
Going into senior year, Kolodziejczyk made the decision to submit her name into the running for queen in order to fully grasp all of her final experiences as a high school student. For the candidate, being on court revolves around living out her fantasies and taking it all in one last time.
Kolodziejczyk, expressing her feelings about upcoming homecoming festivities, excitedly stated: “I’m most excited for the homecoming football parade. I think it’s so fun to be able to get dressed up and be in the parade before being walked onto the field during halftime where they crown the queen.”
Ironically, the candidate claimed she happened to be absent the Monday in which the official court was announced: “I actually wasn’t at school that day and had forgotten they were going to announce it, so when my phone suddenly started blowing up with my excited friends and congratulations it was a huge surprise but made me really happy.” This experience made the news even more of a thrilling surprise for the senior.
Even though she wasn’t physically with her peers, the candidate’s school spirit was still vibrant as ever. Showing a sense of gratitude towards her peers for giving her this opportunity, Kolodziejczyk says, “I would be completely shocked if I won homecoming queen, but I’d also be incredibly grateful and excited, of course.”
Leading up to Woodhaven High School’s Homecoming football game this Friday, students and members of the community can look forward to the halftime show. Instead of the typical marching band, dance, and cheerleading performances, the final announcement for the title of homecoming queen will take place on the football field during that time period.
