When interviewing Jeff the security monitor from Woodhaven High School, about the new freshman and sophomores being moved over to the high school, and how it has changed his job. Jeff has been a security monitor for 4 years and has a great time being here, and he builds relationships with all of the students to make sure they are safe.
When I interviewed Jeff about the new freshmen and sophomores being moved to the high school, he said “I think it’s awesome that the freshmen are at high school .It should always be 9th through 12th,”. I also believe that it is cool that the freshmen have been moved to the high school even though there are a lot of students in the halls during passing time and causes people to make it to class later than usual.
I asked Jeff how much harder this made his job and he stated “The freshman being here at high school has made it a little more difficult only because of more students in halls during class change and lunch time . ( cafeteria ,performing arts , commons area )”. Throughout the years there has only been the sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the high school and this year that has all changed. Now that the freshmen are in the school there are now around 1,600 students in the school and so far they are doing a great job of maintaining all of them and having no altercations.
Last year during the school year Jeff was walking around all day and was averaging 18,000 steps a day and now that there are more students in the high school and having to walk all day he is now averaging 25,000 steps a day. He is now averaging 7,000 more steps a day to make sure the school is safe and free from altercations and other threats.
All of the security monitors wear blue shirts to tell each other from the students and they all have radios to communicate with each other. Also they use the radios to know where to go and what is happening at that time to know if it is dangerous or not. Also they can communicate with any one who is in the office to let them know if they need to go to a certain class to pull a student out for whatever reason necessary.
I also asked Jeff if he attends any of the sporting events and he stated “I do work sporting events through the year”. When Jeff works sporting events he makes sure no problems happen and he also watches for his enjoyment to support the school he works for. Also he makes sure that parents don’t start any problems with the players or the refs making sure the game goes well.
Jeff wants all of the students to know that the security is here and makes the school a safe place for the kids to go everyday and make sure they aren’t afraid to talk to someone. Also they are always there to help anyone who needs it. Being a security monitor is a very important job to make sure the school is a safe environment for all of the students and staff that go to Woodhaven High School on a daily basis.
