As the clock ticked, students anxiously awaited the Woodhaven High School main office after school announcements. All homecoming court votes were finally cast and ready to be announced. A leadership office student stated, “The results are in, and the females on the Woodhaven Homecoming Court are…”
With all eyes on her, Allyanna Shaffran sat there waiting apprehensively. Shaffran states, “I was excited because the classroom was full of my friends, so I felt very supported and ecstatic about the other candidates.”
Finally, the moment arrives, and the leadership office student shouts, “Allyanna Shaffran!” As Allyanna jumps up and down with joy, she is incredibly thrilled.
Allyanna Shaffran is a Woodhaven High School senior involved in all aspects of the school. She has been involved in band since fifth grade, playing the flute and the trumpet. While in band, Shaffram has volunteered since 11th grade to help special needs students through her involvement in the club United Sound. Helping individuals has always been a passion for Shaffran, especially since her participation in Link Crew during her senior year.
While Shaffran is thrilled about running for court, she is most excited about running with her boyfriend, Malik. Shaffran and Malik decided to run for the 2024-2025 school year homecoming court together as a couple. Shaffran states, “This entire experience has been like a romantic comedy, and I can’t wait for all the events to take place.”
When asked, Shaffran explains that her biggest inspiration is her older cousin, Sierra. Shaffran tells us, “She has always been like an older sister by giving advice and helping me with life experiences.” She also talks about her mom and dad being her biggest supporters throughout her life.
As time passes, friends and family continue supporting Shaffran in her decisions. After high school, she plans on applying to the University of Toledo, Michigan State University, Albion College, Saginaw Valley State University, and even the University of Michigan Ann-Arbor. Shaffran desires to become a high school English teacher and continue to make a difference in students’ lives.
Shaffran believes underclassmen should try to start focusing early in school. She mentions, “Don’t think about things that aren’t gonna matter in a few years; think about the things that will.” As she continues, she strives to do well daily in extracurricular activities, school, etc.
She believes in the importance of education and finding your purpose in life. Allyanna Shaffran is an excellent candidate for the Woodhaven High School Homecoming Court of the 2024-2025 school year. She continues to show us a shining example of what it means to be an exemplary student and community member.
