It’s that time of the year again, Woodhaven’s school spirit week. Where students dress up for 5 fun days leading up to the homecoming football game and dance. Every year students show off their school spirit by wearing fun clothes to school.
This year’s spirit week is coming up fast. On the week of October 14th, “spirit days” will start off the big homecoming week. These 5 days are meant to bring the students closer together and raise school spirit. This week of fun is led by the 4 senior Tribe leaders, Aiden Moritz, Cameron Deon, Maya Justice, and Rylie Debacker. These 4 students were selected to lead the Woodhaven Tribe in order to boost school spirit and help students have fun at school activities.
This week leads up to the big football game against Lincoln Park High School, and the homecoming dance taking place in the main gym. Spirit Week is a way for students to connect with one another and with the school. Students dress up, and participants from each grade are tallied to see what grade has the most school spirit.
The Woodhaven student council decides the spirit week day-to-day fun dress-up ideas, and in what order they will be worn. Students have lots of fun in the semi-laid-back week leading up to the eventful weekend. Isaac Michaelis states spirit week is, “A fun week to be relaxative, but still focus on some school work while having fun.” Spirit week is here to let students have fun in school, but also still focus on school work. Many students feel a moral boost in the school during this week, due to the mellowed atmosphere.
Students also vote on the homecoming king and queen during this week. Elections are held, and many students try to be voted into the top 5 to be selected as the king or queen. Senior students are allowed to run for king and queen, but the lower grade levels may only run for prince and princess. Everyone has a good time and at the end of the week at the pep assembly, the king and queen are decided, and crowned in front of the whole school.
Spirit Week is a fun time for everyone to get together and have a good time while still learning and succeeding in their academics. Spirit Week is a way to boost students’ behavior at the beginning of the school year in order to make them feel more comfortable.
