Rylie is the president of a club called DECA. DECA is a club that prepares students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management through programs, events, and competitions. You may do things like roleplays, attend workshops, work on group projects, write papers, or do interviews. DECA stands for “Distributive Education Clubs Of America.”
Rylie first joined DECA her sophomore year because she said, “It is a fun way to get involved in the school.” Over the years she has gotten really close to the teachers, and students in DECA. The friendships she has made through the club are some of her closest friends, which has been her favorite part of DECA.
Rylie made it to nationals last year which was in Anaheim, CA on Apr. 27-30th. She said she was “really excited and had a lot of fun while learning a lot”. Her knowledge of business, professionalism, and teamwork has improved.
Rylie became President by being elected. She was interviewed by teachers and received recommendations. As president she oversees the Vice President’s, people ask her questions when they need help, she promotes DECA, and is a leader.
DECA has made her more involved with the school because they host events, and plan things for the students. So far this year DECA has made/sold shirts for homecoming, pink out game (breast cancer awareness), and tribe shirts. For spirit week one of the themes is “white Lies” so DECA sold white shirts for people to buy for $5.
Rylie has competed for 3 years, making it to states every time. She has competed in roleplays, and done group projects. This year she is writing a paper in chapter awards with her two partners. She said she is “so excited to compete this year.” It is her senior year so this will be her last year competing in DECA and she can’t wait to make the most of it.
Overall she is very thankful for DECA, what it has done for her over the years, and the relationships that have grown. She is very excited for Nationals this year in Orlando, FL. She is excited to see where this year takes her, will cherish every moment, and make a very memorable year.
