A student section at a football game is everything. It can turn an uneventful game into a memorable one, firing up the team and getting the win. That being said, there are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that one would not think of. That’s why we will be taking an inside look at the student section and how it operates.
There are four leaders of the student section aka the Tribe, two girls, and two guys, and this role gets passed down from a previous leader to another. The 2024-2025 student section leaders are Aiden Moritz, Cameron Deon, Maya Justice, and Rylie Debacker. They do various tasks to not only promote the student section but to make the games as entertaining as possible. These tasks can range from managing and making posts for the “Tribe” Instagram account to planning out what theme the football game is.
As mentioned previously, managing Social Media is a task that requires a multitude of traits. Some of those traits include having quick witty thinking, the ability to use editing apps, and being able to understand the school’s population and what they enjoy. All of the leaders make posts, however Maya Justice was reached out to for a quote on the operation of social media, and she said this: “Every post, theme, and idea for the student section is brainstormed by all four of the tribe leaders. We always work together as a team to take into consideration everyone’s ideas, while also making posts that will intrigue everyone at Woodhaven and make them laugh!” This quote emphasizes teamwork and the qualities it takes to run social media.
An essential part of the student section is the themes, as they allow everyone to dress up and show their creativity. Talking to Aiden Moritz about it, we learned that it’s more than just randomly choosing a theme, as he stated, “Making themes for the football games is an exciting time of the year. We make the themes showing our school’s pride and unity. Having themes make these times more memorable.” These themes mean more than just dressing up, as they show our school’s unity and our support towards the team and the school. Occasionally these themes can also benefit other organizations as people, for instance, the Pink Out game against Carlson to support Breast Cancer Awareness.
