Adilynn Rushlow first swung a club when she was 5 years old. As a little girl, she looked up to her dad who played golf even before she was born. Last month, she became the Downriver League Champion and led her team to states by winning regionals.
During the Downriver League Tournament, she won every match and got the most points out of all individuals in the Downriver teams. Because of Adilynns accomplishments as part of the Woodhaven Varsity Golf Team, they made the top of the Downriver League. Adilynn said, “I feel like I accomplished my goal; it just feels super positive. I’ve never felt this way before, and I’m just extremely happy. I feel like I’m a leader towards my team.”
Although Adilynn started playing golf when she was 5, she started getting serious about it her freshman year of high school. This was when she first started competing in golf, and when she first became a part of a team; the Woodhaven Varsity Golf Team.
Before her freshman year, Adilynn was just playing golf for fun. She would go to the golf course with her dad and swing clubs in her free time. Adilynn said, “He would always take me to this small range by my house and we would go and hit balls and he would just teach me how to do it correctly.”
Adilynn was so good at such a young age. When she first started playing golf with her dad and she would hit a ball, her dad would always laugh because she always had good contact. He would always tell her how good of a golfer she was when she was only 4 feet tall.
After high school, Adilynn wants to take a gap year and plans to practice every day. During her gap year, she is going to do the Top 50 Junior Tour, which is multiple individual-ranked golf tournaments throughout Michigan, Ohio, and Florida. She has competed in these tournaments 5 times before. After her gap year, she plans to play college golf. She said, “It depends on how good I get within those years of college,” for if she would go pro or not after college.
For Adilynn, it isn’t all about winning. This is what makes her such a good athlete. She doesn’t get stressed out because she is just trying to have fun. She said, “Just go out there and have fun. It doesn’t matter how you play, you just want to have fun. You cannot stress out about it, because it is all about having fun.”
“It doesn’t matter who you are playing against, don’t worry about them, worry about yourself and how you are doing.”
