Nov. 5, 2024, the decision day of the United States future, Election Day. With Vice President Kamala Harris being the Democratic candidate and Former President Donald Trump being the Republican candidate. The people of America dictate this country’s future. Each candidate has a different variety of policies that they believe will help benefit the United States.
Each candidate is mainly focused on a specific key standpoint. Harris surrounds her campaign regarding women’s and healthcare rights, while Trump is focused on improving the economy and reducing taxes.
Harris believes every woman in America should have access to healthcare rights. Harris states, “Every woman in every state must have reproductive freedom and access to the health care they need. That is why I have fought to lower health care costs and protect the ability of every woman to make her own decisions about her own body.”
As a woman herself, Harris discusses the importance of making sure every woman has access to affordable healthcare. With all expectations, Harris wants women to have the right to access abortion clinics when needed.
Harris supports abortion with all exceptions including rape, incest, and in order to save a mother’s life. She believes women should have the ability to make their own decisions on what they do with their body and that a man shouldn’t have a say in her choice.
While supporting access to healthcare rights, Harris states, “While we fight to protect and expand health care, extremist so-called leaders are attacking reproductive freedom at every turn. Republicans in Congress have repeatedly blocked legislation to protect the right to contraception across the country.”
Harris demonstrates how Republicans want a national abortion ban. She wants to prevent this due to the result of unsafe abortions. She believes every woman should have access to contraceptives with reduced and lower costs.
With regards to Republican Congressmen voting against healthcare rights, Harris states, “The extremists who wrote this ban either don’t know how a woman’s body works, or they simply don’t care.” Harris acknowledges that men and women think differently, so a man will never understand a woman’s fear of being unable to access proper healthcare.
Harris’ policies of affordable and accessible healthcare rights are a large part of her campaign. She wants to bring extreme awareness with regards to the healthcare system. She expresses the importance of voting democratic to ensure these rights will be protected.
On the other hand, Trump believes that having a well-running economy will be the most beneficial to citizens while decreasing taxes.
According to Penn Wharton, University of Washington, “Under current law, individuals drawing social security benefits are required to pay taxes on 50-85% of their benefits, with lower-income retirees paying taxes on a lower share than higher-income retirees. This proposal would exclude all Social Security benefits from taxable income for all individuals.” According to this law, this will cut all taxes from Social Security and benefit the elderly.
Some Americans believe that Trump’s economic plan will improve government spending and lower inflation. According to the Tax Foundation, “Some of Trump’s tax proposals are well-designed and would be efficient ways to promote long-run economic growth, such as permanent expensing for machinery, equipment, and research and development.”
Trump focused his campaign around improving the quality of the economy and reducing taxes for middle and lower class families. Trump plans to cut Social Security taxes, eliminate taxes on overtime, and to reduce sales tax.
There’s no true guess on who could win the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election. Each candidate has a fighting chance of winning.
Although each candidate differs in their policies, they both agree that building and maintaining a strong economy is essential. Recognizing that the people should have a voice is also significant.
Each candidate has hosted presidential rallies in multiple states across America to express their opinions and their upcoming policies they want to establish while also allowing citizens opinions to be voiced across America.
They both describe the importance of voting, especially for younger, Generation Z citizens. Every individual’s vote matters even if they believe it does not.
Voting shapes our country and is essential to a well-established country. It helps us the United States stay organized by determining main leaders to step up and take over while still keeping democracy and peace.
Anyone who is 18 or older has the right to vote and should use it wisely. Most young people think voting doesn’t matter when it does. Whether it’s voting for city council, governor, or president, voting is a privilege and should be taken seriously.
