Cubans on the eastern side are in panic, due to the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Cuba’s eastern side of the island. This earthquake struck on 2024 November 10th, directly after hurricanes Oscar and Rafel hit the island. Cuban citizens on the eastern side are trying to recover from this devastating tragedy.
The earthquake follows suit after the previous hurricanes that struck Cuba causing widespread blackouts across the eastern side of the island. Many landslides, damaged homes, and downed power lines were reported later that day.
Residents were shaken up from the earthquake leaving their homes to see what mess was happening to the island. There was a smaller 5.9 magnitude quake before the bigger 6.8 magnitude quake struck. Residents claim that there were two aftershocks following the second quake, but no major damage was reported.
These two quakes hit just after the western side of the island was struck by hurricane Rafel, and before that hurricane Oscar, leaving the island in disarray. Cuba is trying to recover from these disasters that just keep coming.
Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel leads efforts to start the recovery of the island in these hectic times. “We are beginning to assess the damage in order to begin recovery. The first and most important thing is to save lives.” President Diaz-Canel states. It is Cuba’s President Diaz-Canel’s number one priority to ensure the protection of his citizens in Cuba’s efforts to rebuild from the earthquake and past storms.
Cuba starts its recovery process as citizens are left in awe of the quake that followed the two hurricanes. Cuba, with its widespread “blackouts, due to an energy crisis from the hurricanes, has been working their hardest in order to restore the island to where it was before the earthquake and hurricanes hit the island.
