After the Lions huge victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 17, 2024, they improved their record to 9-1, which is tied for first place with the Kansas City Chiefs in the whole entire league, but is first place in the National Football Conference (NFC). The Chiefs just suffered their first loss of the season to the Buffalo Bills, ending the undefeated streak of nine games this season.
With this most recent Detroit Lions win, many sports analytics are saying they are the most dominant team in the league. When you look at any team’s domination, you look to see their point differential. The Lions have a whopping +159 point differential through the first ten games of the season. Coming in second for point differential is the Bills, which have a pretty solid number of +106. The Lions biggest wins this season have come from their win against the Dallas Cowboys, which was 47-9, their win against the Tennessee Titans, which was 52-14, and the most recent game which was the Jaguars, 52-6.
With the most recent game the Lions beat team records. They beat their record of 38 first downs in a game and had a total of 645 yards. Sports analytics are saying that this year’s Lions are one of the best, most explosive offenses to ever step foot on a field. Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell adds, “I think we have that ability, I really do. I think we have that ability,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Sunday when asked if this offense is as good as some of the best in history. “We have everything that we need to be potent, and like I say, I feel like we’re well-rounded.
When we look at the Lions quarterback Jared Goff, he plays a huge role in these big victories. After coming off a struggling game against the Houston Texans after throwing a career-high five interceptions. Goff responded back against the Jaguars, throwing for 412 yards and four touchdowns and also rushing for 21 yards. Multiple other players had huge games also in the names of Amon-ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, David Montgomery, and Jamyr Gibbs.
St. Brown was all over the field vs the Jags, St. Brown had 11 catches for 161 yards and two tds. Williams, on the other hand, is a deep ball threat and had four catches for 124 yards and a td. When it came to the best running back tandem in the league in the names of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, they both had solid games. Monty rushed for 75 yards off 15 attempts, gathering two tds, also having three catches for 20 yards. Gibbs, the second-year running back, had 69 yards off 11 attempts and one catch for a long 54 yards.
The Lions defense has also been lights out this season, only giving up 179 yds in total to the Jags. Last week against the Texans, they let up 23 pts in the first half and then shut them down in the second half. “As the defense continues to improve, with young defenders maturing and settling into their roles, the Lions look like the class of the NFC — and maybe the entire league.” The biggest game changers for this Lions defense have to be both of their starting safeties, in the names of Kirby Joseph and Brian Branch (BB). Through ten games, Kirby has 47 tackles, seven ints (leads the NFL), and nine passes defended. BB has 57 tackles on the season with four ints and 13 passes defended. There are lots of arguments about who is the best on the team between these two which also shows that they are the top safeties in the whole entire league.
Overall, these lions are having an amazing season, one of their best seasons in over a century. Obviously, the team’s goal is to eventually proceed into the playoffs and win the Super Bowl. Which is a good chance stating that they are the best bettors on winning the superbowl in front of the Chiefs. Lions fans have waited lots and lots of time for this and are very deserving of it.
