Christmas is a nostalgic time of year for many individuals, as memories of past holidays spent with family and fun activities flood their thoughts. As the years pass by, families still make time for their same special Christmas traditions – which most often include movie marathons of the Christmas classics. Fortunately, going into this year’s holiday season, families will get the chance to see their favorite festive movies return to the big screens at MJR.
To add to the Christmas magic, MJR has declared a number of dates on which some select festive favorites will be played in theaters once again. According to MJR, there are “10 different locations” throughout the state of Michigan for viewers to go and watch their favorite holiday movies in theaters – including a nearby Southgate location in the Downriver area. In pure Christmas spirit, MJR has even ensured that the cost of this theater experience is affordable for the broad majority of families. As stated by WXYZ Detroit News, MJR made an informational Instagram post with details, emphasizing tickets costing “only $5.” This event has been ongoing since the start of November and will continue through Christmas Day.
Kicking off the first week of the month, Elf returned to the screens, allowing young children and adults alike to enjoy the Christmas theater experience with one of the most beloved films of the season. Although the showing for Elf just concluded on the 7th of December, there are still three other exciting movies being shown throughout the duration of the month. Following this, MJR plans to shift showings and begin streaming The Polar Express – which is often mentioned among the most famous and nostalgic Christmas movies that families are sure to watch each and every year. The Polar Express will be brought into theaters on the 8th of December and played up until the 25th. In addition, yet another old, but beloved classic will return to MJR theaters: White Christmas. First released in 1954, White Christmas is another traditional film, leaning on the older side of the scale among the movies being replayed. Lastly, MJR’s final showing of the holiday season features Frank Capra’s 1946 film It’s a Wonderful Life. This movie will be played from December 22 up to Christmas Day.
All thanks to MJR, older generations and younger communities alike are given an opportunity to connect with one another, as the Christmas spirit that has been built across generations is revived. This theater experience is fun and “new” for young first-time watchers and is a way of giving adults feelings of nostalgia once again.
On top of the memory aspect, this MJR special event is also considerate of families’ need to properly save money during the winter months. Costs are in accordance with their audience’s budgets, which are typically stricter during this time of year due to extra seasonal spending on gifts. Ultimately, the cinema chain providing low ticket prices makes it much more accessible, especially for larger families, making it a wonderful way to show care for the community and spread holiday joy to all.
