On Friday, December 6th, Woodhaven hosted its annual tree lighting at the Woodhaven Community Center on Hall Road. At this event, a few Woodhaven High School groups were featured, including the WHS Marching Band and Choir, the Varsity Dance Team, and the JV Dance Team.
The dance teams performed their Christmas routines for the crowd, and not long after, the marching band paraded Hall Road playing Sleigh Ride and one of their three drum cadences “Lucky Charms” that you may have heard played at any WHS home football game.
While these festivities were happening outside, there were also activities inside for those who wanted to stay warm. Inside, there was hot chocolate, face painting, and a frosty blow-up that people could take pictures in front of. After the parade, Mayor Odette did a countdown and lit the very tall tree in front of the center with beautiful colored Christmas lights.
Santa Clause was also in attendance, along with Mrs.Clause, crafts for the kids, and an ice sculpture exhibit. After the activities, the kids had an opportunity to take photos with Santa in Safety Town and visit with his group of Reindeer after he was done being welcomed into the city and received the key.
The parade started at the fire station, led by the Marching band. It was followed by a fire truck fully decorated with Christmas lights and a stop-motion video of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Mr. and Mrs. Clause.
