In 2024, many hyped-up movies came out and I will be ranking those movies based on box office sales from the showing weekend. Additionally, I will be ranking them based on personal experience, I saw all of the movies in theatres as they came out and enjoyed each movie in different ways.
The first place with the most money made is Inside Out Two which made $1,698,545,771 worldwide. This movie was heavily anticipated as the last movie in the series came out in 2015. The movie picks up as the main character Rylie is getting older and heading into her teenage years. Along with that, Rylie began puberty and started to experience new emotions. Those emotions became new characters to go along with the previous characters: joy, anger, sadness, disgust, and fear. The new characters that linked with her beginning stages of puberty were anxiety, ennui, nostalgia, and embarrassment. The new emotions abruptly came in and instantly took control of her body causing her to act out several times. The main plot line of the movie is continuing Riley’s hockey career. She is invited by a special team along with her two friends to come and compete for a spot on the team. On the way to the camp, her friends broke the news to her that they’re moving to separate high schools and won’t be playing together anymore. I think Inside Out 2 excelled because of the movie’s timing. Many viewers felt that Disney waited until everyone who had watched the first movie was more grown up and able to understand the emotions of the second movie. A lot of people could relate to the movie as well and it was enjoyable to people who didn’t relate.
The second best movie of 2024 is Deadpool & Wolverine from Disney/Marvel which made around 1.3 billion dollars. Deadpool is a series loved by many because of the superhero plot along with a sense of humor throughout the movie. I went and watched the movie when it was first released. I usually get bored when watching superhero movies but this one kept me entertained throughout the whole movie. A huge reason these movies succeed is because of the character’s actors. Ryan Reynolds plays Deadpool and plays the character very well every time and fits the role very well. Another loved actor is Hugh Jackman who played Wolverine in the movie. These two getting major roles in a movie together is something rarely seen and fans seemed to love it. The movie made many viral lines, especially the line from Channing Tatum, “Oooh I’m bouta to make a name for myself.” The line became massive on social media, especially TikTok. The plot of the movie was great in my opinion, especially in the way Deadpool wanted to save his world because of how much he cared about his closest friends. Hugh Jackman also was seen in the plot in a dark place because he had nobody and didn’t have any motivation to help himself or others. Overall the movie was a huge success and fans wait for hopefully a sequel.
The third best movie of this year in my opinion is Despicable Me 4. The Despicable Me series has always been a huge success when a new film is released and this movie has continued that streak. The movie made 969.2 million at the box office which proves it was highly anticipated and many were waiting for its release. The movie’s plot has the huge event of Gru Jr. entering the family. Gru Jr. is obviously just like his dad but in this movie, he torments his dad the whole time and messes with him. Although Gru Jr. was targeting his dad, Gru had bigger problems. Criminal mastermind Maxime Le Mal had escaped from prison and was coming for Gru no matter what it took. His whole motive was Gru humiliating him in the past. In hopes of being protected from this, the government had to step in with protection. Their whole family had to move away to a rich neighborhood which was totally unlike them. Following that they all needed to get fake names to keep their true identity as secret as possible. All together the series is still very loved and continues to be watched.
