The Woodhaven Warrior hockey team took to the ice on Dec. 12 for their first league matchup against the Riverview-Cabrini Pirates. The Warriors took the ice looking for the second win of the season against a struggling Riverview team who were held winless through this point of the season.
Starting for Woodhaven were Davion Long, Chase Saltalamacchia, Ethan Pawlowski, Joe Crapanzano, Van Kitchen, and Bryce Beutner in the net. Woodhaven started slow, letting up three goals in the first period of play. Senior goaltender Jonathon Heacox entered the game to begin the second period.
The Warriors came out with a vengeance in the second period, as they matched Riverview-Cabrini’s total in the first period, tying the game at three goals a piece. These goals came from Davion Long, Lucas Armstrong, and Van Kitchen. The team now had one thing on their mind to finish the game, to outscore the opponent.
Woodhaven continued their impressive goal pace into the third period, with two goals coming from Van Kitchen to complete the hat trick. Other goals came from Joe Crapanzano and Conner Gibson. With the team carrying a four-goal lead, all that was left to do was hold Riverview-Cabrini off for the rest of the game. Although the Warriors conceded two late-game goals in the third period, they held on and won the game with a score of seven to five.
The Warriors improved their win total to two and look forward to continuing to improve their skills on the ice with just over two months remaining in the season.
