Van Kitchen is a sophomore at Woodhaven High School and is currently in his second year on the varsity hockey team. Here are 10 questions with Van.
1. When did you start playing hockey, and who got you involved?
I started playing hockey when I was 3 years old learning to skate and my father got me involved in hockey.
2. What is your best hockey memory?
My favorite hockey memory I have is when my team made it to a tournament championship in East Lansing at Munn Arena.
3. What is your favorite part of playing high school hockey?
My favorite part of high school hockey is the new friendships I have made through the two years I’ve played hockey for the high school.
4. Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Usually, after team stretching I go stretch alone with music and drink Muscle Milk before playing every game.
5. What has been the hardest part of adjusting to WHS?
The hardest part of adjusting to Woodhaven High School is navigating through the hallways.
6. What do you enjoy doing outside of the rink?
I enjoy playing other sports, working out, and spending quality time with family and friends.
7. Any favorite pre/post-game meals?
My favorite pre-game meal is anything that’s loaded with carbs and a post-game meal is something small like a water and beef jerky.
8. Top 5 places you want to travel?
The top five places I would like to travel to are California, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, and Texas.
9. What motivates you to be better in the classroom?
What motivates me to be better in the classroom is hockey and my parents.
10. Where do you see yourself in three years?
I hope would like to see myself playing hockey still, but if not I would like to go into trade school to become an electrician and start a company.
