With the end of the 2024 regular college football season, people are talking about a kid named Ashton Jeanty at Boise State. Many people consider him to be the best college running back of all time after his performances against his opponents this season.
Through all 13 regular season games he has racked up a staggering 2,497 yards. He has 344 carries all year, which is more than the other running backs considered the best. However, Jeanty still did it better than his competition, so it isn’t a valid argument. With his 2,497 yards rushing, Jeanty gets 7.3 yards per carry per play on average. He has racked up 29 rushing touchdowns with one receiving touchdown as well. His longest play this year so far, was 77 yards which came in week one against the Georgia Southern Eagles. Fumbles are a part of football and every great player fumbles at least 5 or so times a year; Jeanty has only fumbled twice all year and they are now in the playoffs.
People’s main argument is that Jeanty played an easy schedule and that he wouldn’t do what he did against ‘good’ teams, but when he played against Oregon, which is the number 1 ranked team this year, he put up 192 yards and 3 touchdowns on 25 carries. Critics also like to question that if he was that good then why didn’t he win the Heisman trophy? But he got robbed from the Heisman trophy race because they gave it to Travis Hunter.
