The Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that the recovery of running back David Montgomery is seeming to go well, but the thought of him being able to play in the postseason is still questionable. The starting running back Montgomery might still have a small chance for a return after his MCL tear that happened in the past game, as the team still deciding if they’re going to place him on injury reserve.
Dan Campbell said that the newest medical doctor opinions have varied, but the only thing that needs to be taken care of is Montgomery’s knee has to be stable and healthy enough to have a comeback. He says, “Optimistic with a couple of doctors that he saw – the last two, I think we may see where this thing goes. We got a decision to make”.
The injury decisions have been changing throughout the week. At first, Campbell said that Montgomery would have to have season-ending knee surgery, but now that statement has changed after seeing other specialists for different options. Campbell says, “It’s a matter of do you put him on injury reserve? Do you see how fast he can come back from it?”
As of right now, the rookie Jahmyr Gibbs will remain the starting running back in the backfield. Dan Campbell has had nothing but confidence in Gibbs, his improvement that has happened throughout this season, and his being a questionable top 5 running back is going to be very important with Montgomery out.
