President Trump’s second term started on January 20, 2025. After his inauguration, President Trump has 100 hours to set his new policies into motion.
The first 100 hours of every president’s new term is a time to set a pathway for their presidency in the long run. In the first 100 hours, it is a president’s duty to set priorities, and members of the campaign, and to begin work on campaign promises. All presidents have this opportunity at the beginning of their presidency in order to prepare the office to the way they want.
Immediately President Trump sprung into action taking down several of former President Biden’s older policies. In doing so, Trump successfully got rid of former president Biden’s policies, which officially marked the new presidency.
President Trump’s first policies focus on immigration, economic reform, and environmental deregulation. Within the first few days, President Trump focused his attention mostly onto the United States and Mexican border. As many immigrants have been entering into America illegally President Trump wishes to focus his attention on securing the border to stop illegal immigration from happening.
President Trump also left the Paris Agreement because he felt it was worthless to America. Another policy that was enacted allows for oil drilling to be done in Alaska’s wilderness in order to produce more oil for America.
Some of President Trump’s new policies have been disturbing many politicians around the United States. It’s stated, “Many of the orders are already being challenged in the courts; in one example, attorneys general from 22 states (including Andrea Campbell in Massachusetts) sued Trump to block the order to end birthright citizenship, and a federal judge did block the order, calling it “blatantly unconstitutional.”
Many different government officials are outraged at policies that President Trump has set deeming them to be an unconstitutional policy. Blocking birthright from babies that are born in the United States is extreme, and could be deemed unconstitutional, but Trump has enacted this in order for illegal immigrants to not have American children.
President Trump’s focus for his presidency is to decrease illegal immigration rates by a substantial margin. A decent amount of Trump’s new policies are focusing on immigration from the Mexican border. Trump’s plan is to stop illegal immigration from the Mexican border, so he is enacting many new policies in order to keep these problems from happening.
Another part of Trump’s plan is to deport illegal immigrants from the United States with the help of ICE otherwise known as the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Trump with the help of ICE wants to clear the country of any and all illegal immigrants with no exceptions.
Trump’s policy states, “As part of this operation, there is speculation that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, the enforcement branch of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), is preparing to take removal actions (informally known as “ICE raids”) in targeted cities. However, the actual date of the operation is unclear.”
The main foundation for President Trump seems to revolve around keeping the border clear of immigrants. It also seems that Trump wants to focus on deportation laws, in order to “Clean up the country.”
Not all of Trump’s policies have been enacted in order to prevent illegal immigration. President Trump has also enacted a climate policy to start using more renewable energy sources and fossil fuels.
Trump’s policy is, “The kinds of signals that we’re seeing from the first week or so show a clear commitment to pulling out of the Paris Accords again, and a clear commitment to going beyond what happened in his first term,” Short Gianotti says. “We’re seeing Trump actively trying to shift the balance [between renewable energy sources and fossil fuels], and slow the movement on renewables and other non-fossil-fuel energy development.”
Although President Trump has focused attention on the U.S. borders, Trump is still putting time and effort into other problems within the U.S. Other than Immigration and climate, President Trump wants to impose tariffs; in order to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump threatened to impose tariffs on all imported Colombian goods and on three major import countries, China, Mexico, and Canada. Trump is putting tariffs in place in order to produce more funding for the country and to back the immigration and ICE funding.
