With the WWE Elimination Chamber passing this past weekend, we got to see a lot going into the build-up for Wrestlemania. From things like John Cena’s crazy heel turn to Jade Cargill’s attack on Naomi, it gave us a whole new view of what Wrestlemania could look like in April.
The biggest and probably most unexpected moment of the night was John Cena’s heel turn. John Cena, mostly known as the face of WWE and being a “babyface” for his 20 years at WWE, unexpectedly turned with a brutal attack on Cody Rhodes.
After Cena’s win in the chamber, Rhodes would go to the ring to then be joined by the Rock and Travis Scott. The Rock would ask Cody to make his long-awaited decision on whether he would rather sell his soul to The Rock or decline the offer, which he would and drop one of the wildest lines after.
This is what caused, what fans speculate, The Rock to enact his plan b, which would be having John Cena attack Cody Rhodes. The Rock would give Cena the signal and the beatdown begins ending with Cody being left in the ring with his shirt ripped and face covered in blood.
This moment was one of, and debatably, the biggest heel turn in WWE history John Cena known as the babyface of WWE is now the bad guy and some fans are comparing it to Hulk Hogan’s heel turn back in 1996 when he joined the NWO.
Another moment that caught fans by surprise would be Jade Cargills return and her attack on Naomi. Going into Elimination Chamber, a lot of fans assumed that Jade would make her return and point out her attacker. When she came out during the Women’s Elimination Chamber match, fans were ready for who she would attack.
Now fingers pointed at Liv, but fans were caught by surprise when Jade would point her attention to Naomi and dish out a vicious attack on her. This gives us something to look forward to as Wrestlemania is around the corner as fans can now speculate on if Naomi was really the one who attacked her or if Bianca Belair was the one that set her up.
Continuing with the Women’s Elimination Chamber, Bianca Bel-air would go on to win the match capturing her spot in a Women’s World Championship match at Wrestlemania. She would take on the winner of Rhea Ripley v. Iyo Sky on Monday Night Raw, which would be Iyo Sky in her upset victory.
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens would give us the match of the night as the two would go at each other in an Unsanctioned Match. An Unsanctioned Match is a match where two superstars take on each other in a no-disqualification match and the company, WWE, takes no responsibility for any liabilities that could occur in the match. The match was incredible as the duo’s hatred for each other was seen every second of the match. From crazy spots to Owen’s assault on Zayn to end the match.
However, when Kevin Owens went to continue his assault on Sami Zayn, he would be interrupted by a returning Randy Orton. Orton, a few months prior fell victim to Kevin’s package piledriver, a banned move in the WWE, that would leave Orton injured. His return would come with him saving Sami from falling victim to the same move and Owens running away. This match portrayed the deep story between Zayn and Owens and just how great these two are when they work together.
Lastly, it would be the women’s tag team match where we would see WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus and WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton take on Nia Jax and Candice Lerae. Trish and Tiffany would pick up the win in Stratus’ hometown return in Toronto.
The match was a good one as we got to see Tiffany’s skills on display and Trish Stratus’s return to the ring. Though the match was great, it was definitely overshadowed by all the other bigger moments that happened during the night.
As Wrestlemania inches closer there’s a lot for WWE fans to anticipate as it comes closer and closer. With Cena’s heel turn, Jade’s attack, and Randy’s return, WWE fans are gonna be treated to possibly another great Wrestlemania.
