A return for Travis Kelce seemed very questionable after the Chief’s recent loss in the Super Bowl while having a performance most did not see coming. Kelce put up 4 receptions, 39 yards, and 0 receiving touchdowns.
These are the lowest numbers he has put up in those categories in all 5 Super Bowls he has been in. Kelce’s numbers were all below his averages in the Super Bowl. Many fans and critics believed Kelce would retire on the loss, but Kelce had other plans.
Many athletes play for the love of the game, playing the sport they watch growing up as a kid, and wanting to be the people they see on television every Sunday night. That is exactly who Travis Kelce is, and he uses that love for the game to endure and continue. He had this to say about his performance and why he wants to return.
Kelce still believes he could perform on a high level and continue to help the Chiefs make history, “I still feel like I can play at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year. I don’t think it was my best outing. I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them.”
He then went on and got in-depth about the decision on the podcast “New Heights” that he co-hosts with his older brother and former Super Bowl winner Jason Kelce.
“Especially if you look at my track record and how I’ve been in years past. I want to give it a good run. I have a bad taste in my mouth about how I ended the year how well I was playing and how accountable I was for the people around me. And I love so many people in Kansas City, both in that facility and in the community, and it’s home for me,” said Kelce.
It was hard for Kelce to escape his life as a professional athlete. “I don’t want to leave that life yet.” He also talked about how much blood, sweat, and tears he has put into the Chiefs organization, and he is not ready to give up on them yet. “it didn’t end well for us and I feel like there is a responsibility in me to play out the contract I initially signed to give Kansas City and the Chiefs organization everything I’ve got and that’s what I’m gonna do, man.”
He finally gets to his teammates, coaches, and other locker room members and how they push him to be better and better every day.
Wanting to continue to work with the people that have been around him his whole life giving them all he has shows that he is a true leader in the locker room and will play with his family one more time. “There are so many people in that building that I love with all my heart man. I want to keep living out those dreams and going to work with them.” The future Hall of Famer will return for his 13th year hoping to have a better outcome than the year prior.
