With the NBA playoffs approaching rapidly, there are plenty of teams that have real chances of making it deep into the playoffs. One team that has unexpectedly been on a hot streak this season is the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons were considered one of the worst teams in the NBA the past few seasons, with few points scored or wins. However, in the 24-25 season, the Detroit Pistons have been popping off, surprising a large amount of basketball fans and even Pistons fans themselves. Lately, the Pistons have been seen as real contenders in the playoffs and it is exciting to see Detroit fans with these high hopes for their favorite team. With their first win streak of 8 since 2007-2008 coming to an unfortunate end against the Denver Nuggets of course there are upset fans, however, I believe what the Pistons are doing is still incredible. With their best player, Cade Cunningham has a PPG(Point Per Game) of 25.8 it is clear that it isn’t just a fluke; this team is an actual contender for the playoffs.
If the Pistons continue to play the way they have been, I believe they can make it deep into the playoffs. Even with the other teams leading their respective divisions, I think the Pistons are an unexpected favorite. If they can increase their points per game all around and keep up with their defense they will be a scary team to play against. Another thing that makes this team troubling for other teams is the physicality they play with. With how physical they play it is harder for other players to keep up with them. When they play they are fast and play hard on defense making it harder for the people with the ball to get away and break away to the hoop. If the Pistons keep their physicality up and don’t end up tiring themselves out they can become a top team in the 2025 NBA playoffs, and they will and still are a team to keep your eye on. However, the Pistons still have quite a few games ahead of them before this point so of course there will be more information and statistics to go off of in the future, but as of now, they are looking to be one of the teams to watch out for.
It is an emotional time for the Pistons fans because it has been a long time since the Pistons have performed as well as they have this season and it is an exciting time for Pistons fans. It would be incredible for the Detroit underdog to win the championship, however, taking it one step at a time in regards to expectations for the team is important as well. If the players see the high expectations being set for them it can put more unwanted pressure on them than they already have. As professional sports players the amount of pressure they have not only to perform well for the team and coaches, they also are stressed on performing well for all the fans cheering them on because they don’t want to disappoint them. I strongly believe they can make it far into the playoffs if they continue to play the way they have been, which is physical basketball, good defense, and a strong offense.
Of course, there will always be room for improvement. They can always make their defense stronger and have more points per game or whatever they need to fix. But if they improve, even only a little bit, their chances in the playoffs will highly increase, and have a better shot at taking their team all the way to the championship.
