First, let’s discuss what WIN time is. WIN stands for What I Need, WIN time is a 30-minute period of time that will be held twice weekly but currently is only once a week, which according to Ms.Izzi should be used “To ensure excellence in academics, extracurriculars, and social/emotional learning for all students by implementing a program of targeted support, intervention, extension, and enrichment opportunities.”
This time is for both students and staff to be academically productive with activities that are targeted to students’ needs. Some sessions will be for students to catch up on work, or general support options, and some will be for extension, enrichment, and intervention options if students are already meeting all the required aspects of their classes. Since this time is for students to get the help they need, teachers are able to assign specific kids to their class if they need it. Also, if students excel in the classes they take, they can choose where they want to go in the classes that are available to choose from.
As previously mentioned, the program is currently running once a week on Thursdays. Starting in May, WHS will start holding WIN time on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the second half of fifth hour. Students should receive an email with a link to sign up on the RTI scheduler for the following week. On WIN time days the school runs on a separate bell schedule to make time for the program.
Here is the schedule:
First hour is 48 minutes from 7:30-8:18 am
Second hour is 55 minutes, 8:23-9:18 am
Third hour is 9:23-10:19, 56 minutes
Fourth hour is a full hour, the time of the class depends on what lunch you have
Fifth hour is 11:59-12:47 pm, which is 30 minutes
Sixth hour is 1:27-2:15 pm, being 48 minutes
Since WIN time is meant to encourage students’ learning, it is a no-phone zone, and if you don’t choose a session, the admin will automatically select one for you. Some teachers have their sessions set up so that you can sign up even if you aren’t in that class. For example, if you are passing all of your classes and you would like to go to a gym class instead of an educational class, you can sign up for that.
This time is supposed to positively affect students and hopefully help them do better in school and achieve good grades. If you are able to select the class you go to, your schedule window is open from Friday to Sunday for the upcoming week. If a teacher drafts you into their class, this will be done by Wednesday for the upcoming week. The official schedule for the week will be submitted on the Tuesday of that week.
