The Woodhaven Choir company is honored to once again be able to host this event for choirs all over the Downriver area. Every year in March, 27 ensembles from 14 different schools and 6 districts come together in Woodhaven High School’s auditorium and get scored by judges based on their performance and entertainment factor.
Choirs from all around the Downriver area like Gibraltar; Wyandotte, Taylor; Grosse Ile, Lincoln Park; Riverview, and Woodhaven will be performing the pieces they have prepared for their festival concert to the best of their abilities. The judges, Dr. Kelly Ford, Dr. Cat Bennett, Mr. Dave Martin, Dr. Gerald Custer, and Dr. Shannan Hibbard will give each choir specific scores and feedback based on their performance skills and technique. After the scoring, they receive extra help on what to fix. Clinicals are extremely helpful for students because it allows them to get an outside perspective on how they look while they are performing and teach them ways to be more engaging on stage to entertain the audience. During clinical, these judges will spend time with every age group in every ensemble to make sure they are ready to put on an amazing performance at their next concert.
Woodhaven High Schools 2025 Festival concert will take place on Tuesday, March 18th at 7 PM in the auditorium. All year Woodhaven choirs have been working very hard to improve themselves with every performance they do. This concert is an amazing way for the students to show off the hard work they have put in these last few months to get everything perfect. The festival concert is a harder one to prepare for, Woodhaven choir teacher Ms. Rize specifically picks more challenging pieces for her students because she wants to be able to impress the judges and she wants to prove to her students that they are capable of performing difficult and more advanced pieces.
Choir Festival is a great experience for students for many reasons, it teaches them the importance of facial expressions and body language, it teaches them how to take critical feedback and apply it to the performance and it ultimately shows them how to work together as a team.
