The Woodhaven Boys Basketball season has officially come to an end. To some players and coaches, this season may have been considered a little disappointing. The Warriors ended the season with 14 wins and nine losses. To end off the year, the Warriors lost to Bedford in the district semifinal game at Monroe High School.
The normal standard for Woodhaven is a district championship. They have won the district every year since 2016 besides 2018, 2020, and 2025. The Warriors have also won the downriver league every year since 2016 besides 2020 and 2025.
The Downriver League consists of nine total teams. The teams are Woodhaven, Carlson, Trenton, Wyandotte, Edsel Ford, Southgate, Allen Park, Lincoln Park, and Taylor. The Warriors finished third in the league with a league record of 11 wins and four losses.
Woodhaven started off the year pretty hot with a three-win and one-loss record. Their loss came to a well-coached and highly ranked Northville team. The three wins were all very big because they were league games. The Warriors beat Edsel Ford by three points, Carlson by three points, and Taylor by 17 points. At this point, the Warriors were sitting at the number-one spot in the league.
The next stretch for the Warriors was not as good. They had two wins and two losses while one loss came from an in-league rival. The two losses in the stretch were Trenton by five points and Notre Dame Prep by 22. Their two wins were very important, beating a league championship contender Lincoln Park by two points and Southgate by one point.
Next up for the Warriors is a very big mid-season stretch. They were pretty hot, having six wins and two losses. One of the losses came to Ann Arbor Skyline which did not matter for the league since they are out of conference, but it can have an impact on players’ mentality. It was a very close game where the Warriors battled to the end and lost by 10 points. The next loss on the other hand was way more important. It was to a very good league opponent, Allen Park, where the Warriors also lost by 10 points. The six games the Warriors won were against Livonia Stevenson, Wyandotte, Carlson, Edsel Ford, Taylor, and Trenton.
The Warriors did not end the season too well. They had an overall record of three wins and three losses to end the regular season. Two of the three losses were very big games that Woodhaven could not afford to lose in order to win the league. Unfortunately, Allen Park and Lincoln Park beat the Warriors which cost them the league championship. This resulted in the Warriors placing third in the league and a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Woodhaven had to play against Bedford in their first playoff game of the year. Bedford was coming off a very big win against Monroe. The Warriors ended up losing the game 80-49 which ended the Warriors season.
