The Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards, is an achievement earned by making a very successful film. Winning an Oscar as a filmmaker, actor or actress is one of the most applauded things to win in the film industry.
The winners are selected by the members of the academy, for each category the academy members all vote on who they think deserves or earned it the most. There are a total of 23 categories to win an Oscar.
One of the biggest takeaways from the Oscars this year is Anora. Anora is a movie about a woman from Brooklyn marrying the son of an oligarch, once the news reached her parents in Russia they rushed to New York to cancel the marriage. The film won a total of five honors, including best picture and best actress Mikey Madison. Winning both of those awards in one film is very impressive and very difficult to do.
Many were especially fond of how the setup and schedule went this year. One favored thing this year was the lack of political talk. People noticed the abundance of thank-you speeches from the heart compared to controversial topics such as politics.
Another factor that can completely change the outcome of the award show is the host. This year’s host was Conan O’Brien. He made the awards flow very well while keeping a lighthearted mood in the crowd.
One topic everyone in attendance felt and noticed was the films dedicated to real-world problems. The film No Other Lands was a big hit at the Oscars as it gave a look into the life of a Palestinian living throughout the violent attacks going on throughout their country. Winning an Oscar was very special for this film due to the topic of the movie and the real-world problems going on today along with how difficult it was for this movie to get to the Oscars. The film received many awards from different film festivals but didn’t qualify for the Oscars until they arranged a one-week screening at New York’s Lincoln Center. Thankfully the movie was a hit at the screening and performed well.
Another film, The Brutalist, won another award for similar reasons. Actor Adrien Brody has won two Oscars, both for films about the Holocaust. Adrien said, “I’m here once again to represent the lingering traumas and repercussions of war and systematic oppression and of anti-Semitism and racism and othering,” Brody said. He followed this statement with, “And I believe — I pray — for a healthier and a happier and a more inclusive world. And I believe, if the past can teach us anything, it’s a reminder to not let hate go unchecked.” Fans in attendance supported these two films the most because they deal with real-world things currently happening and problems from the past.
Overall the Oscars went very smoothly and ran successfully, there were many films that got the spotlight that they deserved and many earned the awards they worked so hard for.
