Early in the morning, around 2:50 a.m., two people were shot and killed in Miami Gardens. These two men were in an argument with a Florida bus driver, which resulted in the bus driver shooting and killing both men early Sunday morning.
Bus drivers are strictly forbidden to bring firearms aboard the bus while they are on the job. But this Florida bus driver felt it was necessary for his own personal safety. Juan Mendieta, a spokesperson for Miami Dade’s transportation and Public works department, states, “Transit operators are not allowed to be armed.”
Six shots were said to have been heard by a nearby man. Mr. Wave God stated, “They was on a county bus and they was probably just trying to get to their next destination, and then somebody just decided to take their life,” God said. “I do not like the violence that is going on in my neighborhood… and it’s not fair to the community or the people that stay around here or whoever family that was taken or whatever.”
Both of the men shot were rushed to the airport by air. The men were later pronounced dead after being in critical condition.
The Miami Gardens Police stated, “Preliminary investigation revealed the operator from the bus got into a verbal dispute and fired several rounds in the bus, striking and killing two passengers.” Police also reassured citizens in the area that this was an isolated dispute between citizens, so the community should not worry.
