Cedar Point is a 364-acre amusement park located on the Lake Erie peninsula in Sandusky, Ohio. Once again, this park has thrilled its fans by introducing two new rides called Siren’s Curse and Top Thrill 2. Both of these rides will open early in the summer of the 2025 season.
This year, the park will be opening on Saturday, May 3. Cedar Point opened in 1870 and is one of the oldest operating amusement parks in the United States. The park has many activities, including roller coasters, a waterpark, games, live entertainment, and more.
The park’s normal operating season runs from early May until Labor Day in September, followed by weekend-only operation through Halloween during an annual event known as HalloWeekends.
Cedar Point is home to several record-breaking roller coasters, including the Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster, but the Top Thrill Dragster changed into Top Thrill 2. The Top Thrill Dragster was the world’s tallest and fastest coaster when it opened in 2003.
Top Thrill Dragster got shut down because on August 15, 2021, a guest was waiting in line to ride Top Thrill Dragster and was struck in the head by a small metal piece that dislodged from a train, resulting in a severe injury. The ride remained closed for the following two seasons pending an investigation by the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) and a redesign of the roller coaster.
The park received the Golden Ticket Award for “Best Amusement Park in the World” from Amusement Today for 16 consecutive years from 1997 to 2013. The park consistently ranks as the second-most visited, behind Canada’s Wonderland.
After the two news rides entering the park, it may be ranked as the most visited amusement park in the world.
The first new roller coaster coming to Cedar Point in the 2025 season is Siren’s Curse. It was announced on September 19, 2024, and will be North America’s tallest, longest, and fastest tilt coaster, standing 160 feet tall and reaching speeds of 58 mph.
Siren’s Curse’s theme is tied to the park’s presence on Lake Erie, referring to Greek mythology, where “sirens” were female beings who sent sailors to their demise via songs. The ride’s trains will feature an integrated audio and lighting system to tie into the theme.
The second new roller coaster is Top Thrill 2. The Maximum height and speed remained the same, the track length increased to 3,422 feet. A unique feature of this ride is its added second launch. The ride now includes a backward launch and a vertical spike. This backward launch propels riders up a 420-foot-tall vertical spike before sending them forward again for the main launch.
Last year, the ride did end up opening for a short period of time in April, but then a week later, it shut down temporarily because it needed some changes. Cedar Point has confirmed that Top Thrill 2 will be open when the park opens for the season this Saturday, May 3.
