Senior year is all about having fun and making memories with your friends and everyone. It is also your last year of high School and your last chance to get that High School experience you have always wanted to have. For some seniors, it has been difficult because high school has not always been a good place for a lot of people, such as mental health issues. Many people just do not feel it when it comes to school, especially at this time of the year.
A lot of people have probably thought about dropping out, and that is normal to think, but at the end of the day, they decide to push through and make it. Motivation from your friends and family is super important because without them, what would make you push through this year? It is understandable to have senioritis around this time. This usually kicks in after spring break, because having a week off school and then snapping back into reality hits.
Now it is that time of the year again when seniors will have to pick where they will be going after high school, whether that be a trade school, a community or a university.
As we move forward towards the end of the year, Decision Day is finally coming up. What is Decision Day exactly? It is a time when Woodhaven High School puts on some fun games and sweet treats for seniors to enjoy their day. This takes place on Friday, May 2, this year. The students will be able to wear a shirt representing where they have chosen to go for the next four years of their lives. The juniors also take part in this as a way of celebrating the seniors’ commitment to where they would like to go. Every year, they have a background to take pictures, and students repost and tag people on social media to celebrate this day.
Although many people find Decision Day exciting, for some students, this is super overwhelming due to not knowing what or where they want to do or go into. Some find it super frustrating because they should commit to where they want to actually go and are afraid of making the wrong decisions for their future. In reality, this day for some people is when they are committed and are excited for what the future holds for them. It may seem as if students have to get their lives together and know what they want, but they do not.
The college adviser and the staff also give shoutouts for recognizable scholarships and first-generation students who are going to college. Every year, they also do a giveaway, which is exciting because students always love getting free surprises. The student’s picture that they have selected for their slideshow will show a picture of them (that they chose) and where they will be going, and if they have not yet chosen where they want to go, they will be shown as undecided. This day is wonderful and is to be celebrated for these students’ commitment to their futures.
