After making his historical return to office, Donald Trump has made multiple headlines and has the entire world buzzing after his first 100 days back in office. His decisions since his return to office have many citizens split between which stance to take in supporting him or standing against some of his new policies and implementations. So, what has Trump done in his first 100 days back in office?
To say Trump has been busy would be a big understatement. Statistics from The American Presidency Project at the University of California, Santa Barbara state that Trump has signed 142 executive orders as of April 28, 2025. In comparison, former President Joe Biden had only signed 162 executive orders throughout his entire term.
Many of these executive orders have fulfilled many of the promises Trump made during his campaign. One of the main promises is his promise to secure the border, as he has gone straight to work implementing his immigration policies.
However, Trump’s immigration policies haven’t gone without controversy and disapproval from the public. For example, many have opposed his deportation of citizens who have a green card, like Mahmoud Khalil, who was a leader of the protests that occurred at Columbia University. Or in the handling of the deportation of Abrego Garcia, who is a United States citizen who was illegally deported back to El Salvador.
This has led many to disagree with Trump’s policies. In a poll from CNN, they reported, “Just over half, 52%, say Trump has gone too far in deporting undocumented immigrants, up from 45% in February. A similar 52% now say that Trump’s immigration policies have not made the US safer. And most, 57%, say that they do not believe the federal government is being careful in following the law while carrying out deportations.”
However, even with the negative viewpoints from many, these new policies have been very effective. In a recent statement from the White House, they report, “Illegal border encounters are down by 95%,” and “Illegal immigrant ‘gotaways’ — the top threat to public safety — are down by 99%.” They also report that “Under President Trump, we have arrested over 150,000 aliens — including more than 600 members of the vicious Tren de Aragua gang.”
Many of the other executive orders have also caused major commotion throughout the country. Some of these orders include the decision to raise tariffs on China, his controversial pardoning of those who were sentenced for the 2021 Capitol attack, and his handling of international affairs, which have all had an impact on the way people have viewed him throughout the beginning of his second term.
According to another study by The American Presidency Project, they report that Trump, in his first 100 days of his second term, has an approval rating of only 44%, with the only president with a rating lower than in their first 100 days being Trump’s first term, which was only 41% (the study began during Eisenhower’s first 100 days).
However, another promise Trump made would be to tackle inflation, which he has already gotten off to a great start with. According to PBS, they state, “Core inflation last month saw its lowest increase in nearly four years. That is a big deal – economists see that as a key predictor of where inflation may be headed.”
Trump’s first 100 days back in office have certainly been very eventful, keeping him in many headlines, which is definitely something to expect throughout the rest of his term. As for the future of Trump’s second term, it’s definitely going to remain as eventful as he shows no signs of limiting any of his policies and still has plans to expand the power of the president and the executive branch as a whole.
