The Woodhaven softball team has always been one of the strongest sports teams in the school. The softball team has only 3 seniors, but they still are a top team in the Downriver League, competing with Allen Park most of the time. This team has multiple outstanding athletes, such as Senior Ariel Krueger and Junior Mia Taylor. This team is 11-3 through this season so far, and they are looking to take first in the Downriver League. Ariel Krueger is the team’s starting Shortstop. She is a talented player, as she is committed to Duke University to play softball. Mia Taylor is the team’s second baseman and outfielder, and she is committed to playing softball at Boston College. Both of these players are well-known throughout the district because of how good and dedicated they are to winning.
Anytime you see the Woodhaven Softball team, they are always having fun, whether it’s their chants they do in the dugout, the walkup songs having everybody singing, or just playing good while having fun. This team is very enjoyable to watch as they are an electric team with all of their players available to step up and do the job. They are already known to be a highly competitive team on the field, always showing skill, determination, and good chemistry with their teammates. With the chemistry the softball team has, it is a very good sign that they are enjoying the season that is going to be full of memories, and most importantly, a good season to win a lot of games.
This team is very well-rounded and a dynamic group with many strengths among the players. This makes them a very strong team that has a great chance to compete throughout the downriver league and through the bracket play in the state tournament. They are a very consistent team on the field, with very good fielding that helps prevent runs from being put up against them. They also have very good pitching, with Natalie Pridemore being a really good pitcher for the team. Following this, they hit the ball well as they have mercyed many teams this season already.
The shortstop Ariel Krueger said, “My season has been going well, I’m having fun while competing with my teammates.” This shows that she has a good connection with her team and that they stay competitive while having fun, which is key to having a good team and season. As she is committed to Duke, she said, “The Woodhaven softball program has taught me leadership on the field and how to be a good teammate.” This is a major thing as she moves into her college career because every team is looking for a leader and teammates who support and help each other on and off the field. Since the season has reached the halfway mark, Ariel claimed that, “I am looking forward to the playoffs as the time comes closer, I think this team has a real chance to go far.” This shows the confidence she has in her team that they will go far in the state tournament, with hopes of winning it all. On the state tournament topic, she also said, “My favorite memory has to be making it to the state finals game in my sophomore year.” This shows how much she wants to make it to the finals again to relive her favorite memory. Hopefully, this time, the Woodhaven Warriors Softball team will come out on top in the state championship.
