Mark your calendars and join the award-winning, three-time state champion Woodhaven Theatre Company for their performance of Hadestown: Teen Edition, running May 8th through 10th with performances each night at 7 p.m. This play will be held in the WHS auditorium. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets will be sold at the door beginning one hour before the play begins.
In a recent social media post by Woodhaven High School, they teased the play, stating, “An unforgettable journey to the underworld and back, intertwining two mythic love stories–a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience, Hadestown invites you to imagine how the world could be.” With Woodhaven’s own favorite faculty members, Michael Clemons, Chelsea Rize, and Bradley Faryniarz leading the directing staff, this play is sure to be one of a kind. The play also features live music in the pit, featuring five of Woodhaven’s own band students. All set, lighting, sound, and publicity crew are also student-led.
For high school students, the play has some content and character adjustments, and it is shortened to fit the time limits of high school plays. These adjustments are how it gets the added “teen edition.” These students have been working hard since February, when auditions and rehearsals started. After a hard two and a half months, Hadestown has come together and is ready to be shared with the community.
When asked about her favorite part of being in the play, freshman Addison Walter said, “The absolutely amazing cast. I’m getting to know people who are insanely talented actors, singers, and amazing friends. I have loved every moment of learning from these performers, not to mention they’re hilarious. Another one of my favorite things is the crew, our set is so amazingly cool. Finally, the band and the fact that these high school students are doing such a complex show. Every aspect of the show is so, so impressive, and I’m glad I had an opportunity to do it.”
Senior Noah Baron has mixed feelings about this being his last high school play and says, “Obviously, I am very upset, but I’m thankful for everything I have gotten to do. I’m super glad that my last show is a show like Hadestown. In my opinion, it’s one of the coolest shows that I’ve ever been a part of in my four years. I wish I had more time, and I’m going to miss it, but I’m glad I got the opportunity to participate in everything that I did.”
Please come out and support this amazing cast and crew. Their commitment and dedication are sure to shine throughout this production.
