The Woodhaven Warriors varsity baseball team came into the Trenton game with a record of 11-3, and they have a much better record than they did last year. When the Warriors traveled to Trenton for a seven-inning game, the two teams fought hard, and the game ended up going into extra innings.
The Warriors struck first with a double by Dante Perry, which led to an RBI single by Jace Davis, to put the Warriors up 1-0 against the Trojans. With Kaden Newsted on the mound for the Warriors, he threw a great game, shutting out the Trojans in the first inning with only one runner who reached on an error. When asking Newsted how he felt about this game, he said, “This was the most pressure I’ve felt during a game, and I feel like I pitched my best game all season.”
Going into the second inning, Joel Mator, for the Trojans, struck out all three Warriors in the top of the second. When the Trojans came up to bat, nothing too serious happened other than a walk and a single, but this did not lead to any runs for the Trojans. The score remained 1-0 going into the top of the third inning.
However, the score would stay the same for the next inning, and in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Trojans would put a run of their own on the Warriors, making the game tied 1-1. The next run scored came in the top of the ninth inning after a triple by Perry, and that led to Davis successfully completing the suicide squeeze bunt, making the score 2-1.
When the Trojans came up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, Evan Holt was coming in for his second inning of work after shutting down the Trojans in the eighth inning. Holt was able to shut down the Trojans on two pop-outs and a line-out to end the game and make the Warriors 12-3.
When the Warriors went to play Southgate the next day, they struggled early on with a no-run first inning, but in the bottom of the second, the Titans put up five runs on Matt Regan, all of these runs came with two outs.
However, the Warriors came into the top of the third putting up two of their own runs with a single by Cam Thorning, which scored Lucas Farner. Later in this inning, Tristan Spencer, the freshman first baseman, would hit a sacrifice fly ball to score Jace Davis, making the score 2-5. After that, they were able to stop the Titans and then put up another run at the top of the fourth, with a single by Newsted, and then Farner was able to get an RBI single to make the score 3-5. The Titans had a quick fourth inning with a lineout, a pop-up, and a flyout to end the inning.
However, the top of the fifth inning was also quick for the Warriors, only getting one baserunner on from an error. The bottom of the fifth inning would start with a walk that would lead to an error by Davis, putting the runner in scoring position. That run would score on a single; that would be the sixth run of the game scored on two outs. The Warriors would go into the top of the sixth and put up two more runs, but that wouldn’t be enough to win. The next two innings would be scoreless, and the game ended with a Warriors loss, and the Titans won 5-6.
